My research involves insect ecology (population and community) and integrated pest management (IPM). Recently, my research has focused on the relationship between grasshoppers and their food plants as well as the biological stoichiometry of grassland ecosystem. We will evaluate how plant functional diversity and N enrichment treatments affect grasshopper performance, biomass, diversity, and abundances. These responses will reflect effects of plant functional diversity on both grasshopper growth and reproduction as well as effects on grasshopper immigration/emigration. We are especially interested in knowing if manipulations effect the dietary suitability of plant production for higher trophic levels. We are focusing our efforts on the functionally important grasshopper assemblage.
